Is Captcha Destroying Myspace?

The average Myspace user wanting to expand their friend’s list has probably been confronted by one of these guys:

It’s called a Captcha and what it does is disallows someone from adding a mass amount of friends to their profile with a bypass robot.  A Captcha is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human. "CAPTCHA" is from the acronym for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart", created by Carnegie Mellon University. But what it has become lately to the average myspace user is a rather annoyance an almost deterrent from adding friends and enjoying your myspace session. The captcha sometimes will prompt too frequently making the average myspace session a work-out. Recently, the myspace captcha has become so hard to read that even the most trained human eye has trouble translating the captcha’s message. Sometimes it will take several attempts to translate the captcha. Is this what we have been reduced to - translating captchas?

There would seem to be a better method to keep spammers from expanding their friend lists than a captcha. This seems like a great new area for Internet entrepreneurs to go after and seize. With the rise of users on Myspace reaching 100 Million Users worldwide this means big business opportunities and great pay-offs for those that materialize an advancement and make something in the age of web 2.0.

Captcha is a good way of keeping comments away. And keeping users away too...
Are they really too lazy to proof comments manually?

Thanks for sharing your comments. I agree with you.

Some of the captchas are so hard to read...I mean you seriously have to almost guess what the letter or numeral is because it is so heavily disguised. The process becomes annoying and who wants to repeat translating the captcha 2-3 times? I imagine that there is a percantile that just exits the page - myspace would know this percentage. I think the time is here for a new technology.

yes, myspace captcha really sucks
I am find around the internet for a solution for it, I visit myspace many times each day, so I know the feeling of facing captcha, really suck

I get some old ocr for it, but they are not usable now. I also get a human entry solution, like: http://byebyecaptcha.com but again they are not free, :(

horrible for such stupid images

What is truly lame is now is that you have to use it just to login. I'm sick of this crap.

I think one thing that websites and companies need to keep in mind is the bigger gun situation. People who make bots to spam/attack/advertise for whatever motivation, won't simple look at a simple solution like CAPTCHA and say "Ya got me, i'll give up!". Instead, more advanced people will put their great skills against it for fun/experience what have you, and break it. Which has already been done! If CAPTCHA was the end all to spam and attacks then I would gladly suffer through it, but it's not. And the internet security business needs to adapt.
